Posttest Instructions:

(The posttest does not have to be done in one sitting. Please give the test in time increments that are comfortable for your student.)

  1. Locate the test at the end of the tutor manual and the end of the blue student pages. Since you don’t have student pages for Level 1, please make a copy of the posttest or use a separate sheet of paper to record results. Follow the instructions in the manual as you give the posttest to your student.
  2. Record your student’s answers on the Answer Sheet for each section in the blue student pages. Please do NOT record the answers in the Tutor Manual.
  3. The student should complete all sections of the posttest.
  4. When you have finished the posttest, please record your answers on the appropriate web-survey for the corresponding level.
  5. If your student gets more than 2 wrong per section, go back and review, before moving on to the next level.

You no longer need to log your results on the web-survey.

Posttest Results: What do you do when your student gets more than one wrong per task?

1.       Don’t panic! Some students need more review than others. It also may show that you were moving too fast or you didn’t provide earlier opportunities of review.

2.       Make a list of all of the words missed in the posttest and go back to those lessons and review. This may take a couple days or a couple of weeks. The goal is not to move on until those skills are solid.

3.       When working on the difficult skills, throw in some that are easier for your student. It is best to start and finish with something they “CAN” do fairly well.

4.       Make it fun! Check out the games on Susan Barton’s Tutor Support Web-site, as well as, the ones in the back of the book or make up your own.

5.       The more consistent you are reviewing skills, the better your results will be.

6.       When your student can do most of the previously missed skills, move on to the next level, but keep reviewing the skills that have not been mastered.

7.       Remember to provide continual review as you work through the Barton Program. It is always best to start with a fun game time reviewing previous skills taught. As you are working through the program, you can keep a list of those skills that you notice your student doesn’t know automatically and needs some more practice.
